‘The Flyest Wedding in Africa’ is a collaborative sartorial series by Stephen Okoth (also known as Picha Marangi) and Elizabeth Korikel, a translator and beading artist from Kamarase, Turkana, blending bold monochrome fashion with statement jewellery and reimagined second-hand clothing. Known for his flamboyant style often likened to Congolese sapeurs, Stephen Okoth uses his work to challenge stereotypes about Kibera, showcasing vibrancy and creativity instead of narratives of crime and poverty. His distinctive aesthetic gained international recognition when a fashion film about him, directed by Nathan Collett, won Best Film at the Bokeh South African International Fashion Film Festival in 2018. Elizabeth Korikel and Stephen Okoth met the same year during an artists’ exchange programme by Content House Kenya, a creative collective founded by photographer and filmmaker Jackie Lebo. The Flyest Wedding in Africa became the first project from this exchange, aimed at fostering collaboration among artists from Turkana, Karamoja, Kampala, and Nairobi. Through their partnership, the project highlights shared cultural expression while bridging regional identities through fashion and storytelling.
