Turkana Sessions brings together four Turkana artists and one from Nairobi in a collaborative effort to explore and preserve the region’s musical heritage. The team produced a 10-track album recorded live across iconic locations in Turkana County, including the shores of Lake Turkana, the hills of Eliye, and the plains of Kerio, blending traditional art forms with high-quality production. The songs address a range of social themes such as relationships, peace, cultural values, and community challenges, while also amplifying the voices of marginalized groups in the community. As the third project under The Artists Xchange initiative and a companion to the upcoming documentary Turkana: Races for Resources, Turkana Sessions aims to reshape perceptions of Northern Kenya by highlighting its cultural richness and positioning local communities as key contributors to conversations about the region’s future.
