Turkana in Northern Kenya, which is home to Lake Turkana, the world’s largest desert lake, has long been neglected as development prioritized the agricultural south, though recent discoveries of oil and water have drawn new attention. Across the border, Uganda’s Karamoja faces similar challenges despite its mineral wealth. Floating, Flying, shot near Eliye on Lake Turkana, brings together three artists from Turkana, Karamoja, and Nairobi to explore their heritage through décor, beading, and leatherwork. Together, these works reflect identity in the Ateker region while engaging with broader socio-political shifts tied to natural resources.
