A team of five artists, four from Turkana and one from Nairobi, have come together in a project dubbed “Turkana Sessions” to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Turkana through music. The project brings together Jackson Nakuwa, Mourine Apuu, Jackson Ekori, and Elizabeth Korikel from Turkana alongside Eddie Grey from Nairobi, and explores the region’s musical traditions fused with soulful guitar rhythms to create a sound that is both authentic and contemporary. The project aims to elevate traditional art forms with high production values while also highlighting Turkana’s broader creative landscape across music, film, fashion, visual art, and photography. As part of the wider Artists Xchange initiative linked to the upcoming documentary Turkana: Races for Resources, the project seeks to shift narratives about Northern Kenya by celebrating its cultural wealth, natural beauty, and the role of local communities as key custodians of their heritage.
